Rectangular Shaped Purana Qila Is One Of The Oldest Fort Of Delhi. This Place Has Its Evidences Of Connection From Mahabarat Epic Too. After The Exile Duration Pandavas Settled Here And Named This Place As Indraprastha. Evidences Of That Time Are Also Found In The Excavation.

Purana Qila Of Delhi

The Present Structure Was Built Up By Mainly Suri Dynasty. This Fort Was Constructed By Humayun Initially And Named It Dinpanah But After Defeating Humayun Shershah Suri, Founder Of Suri Dynasty Named It As Shergarh And Constructed Many Structures. This Fort Has Three Gates In Three Directions And In The Fourth Direction Of The Fort Yamuna River Flows.

At Present The Entrance Gate Of The Fort Is Bada Darwaja In The West And The Rest Of The Two Gates Are Named As Humayun Darwaza In South And Tallaqi Darwaza In North. Humayun Darwaza Was Built Up By Humayun And Bada Darwaza Was Built Up By Shershah Suri. Before The Construction Completed Shershah Suri Died Then Rest Work Was Completed By His Son Islam Shah. But There Is No Evidence That Which Work Was Done By Whom. It Is The Place Where Every Evening Light And Sound Show Is Performed.
