Basistha Temple Is Located In Southeast Corner Of Guwahati City, A Beautiful Shiva Mandir Constructed By Ahom King Rajeshwar Singha In 1764 And A Vast Land Of 835 Bighas For The Ashram. The Temple Has Its Existance From The Vedic Age. The Ashram Is Said To Be Founded By The Great Saint Guru Basistha. The Beautiful Temple Inside The Ashram Premise Stands On The Bank Of The Mountain Streams Originating From The Hills Of Meghalaya Which Becomes The River Basistha And Bahini Or Bharalu Flowing Through The City.

Basistha Ashram Is Said To Be The Home Of The Famous Sage Basistha, Also Known As Vasistha, Located A Few Kilometers Away From Guwahati, On The Outskirts Of Garbhanga Reserve Forest Which Has An Ample Population Elephants. This Garbhanga Reserve Forest Is Also A Proposed Butterfly Reserve. Although The Ashram Possess A Temple But Still The Cave Exists Where It Is Said That Sage Vasistha Is Believed To Have Meditated And Is Located 5 Km Inside The Ashram. The Beautiful Ashram Possess A Beautiful Waterfall Which Adds On To The Beauty Of The Ashram.
