The Very Famous Aguada Fort And Its Lighthouse Is A Well Preserved Seventeenth Century Portuguese Fort Standing High In Goa, India On The Very Famous Sinquerium Beach, Peeping Towards The Arabian Sea. The Fort Was Built In 1612 To Guard Against The Dutch And The Marathas. The Old Portuguese Fort Stands On The Beach South Of Candolim, At The Shore Of The Mandovi River.

A Fresh Water Spring Within The Fort Provides Water Supply To The Ships That Used To Stop By And This Is Why The Fort Got Its Name : Aguada, Meaning Water On The Fort Stands High A Four Story Portuguese Lighthouse, Erected In 1864 And The Oldest Of Its Kind In Asia. It Once Consisted Of The 79 Canons And Has The Capacity Of Storing 2376000 Gallons Of Water, And So Is One Of The Biggest Freshwater Storage Of The Time In Whole Of Asia.

The Fort Is Divided In Two Segments; The Upper Segment Acted As Fort And Watering Station, While The Lower Part Served As A Safe Berth For Portuguese Ships. It Was Repurposed For The Use As A Prison Primarily For Salazar's Political Opponents. A Wonderful Piece Of Architecture Of Those Times.
