Diskit Gompa Is Also Known As Diskit Monastery Or Deskit Gompa. It Is The Oldest And The Largest Buddhist Monastery In The Nubra Valley Of Ladakh In Northern India. The Diskit Gompa Belongs To The Gelugpa The Sect Of Tibetan Buddhism. It Is Said To Be Founded By Changzem Tserab Zangpo, A Disciple Of Tsong Khapa, The Founder Of Gelugpa, In The 14th Century. It Is A Sub Gompa Of The Thikse Gompa.

This Monastery Has Statue Of Cha Rinpochae (Crowded Buddha) In The Prayer Hall, A Huge Drum And Several Images Of Fierce Guardian Deities. An Elevated Cupola Of The Monastery Depicts A Fresco Of The Tashilhunpo Monastery Of Tibet. The Monastery Also Runs A School With The Help Of An NGO Named "Tibet Support Group". The Diskit Monastery Is Situated On The Hill, Just Above The Flood Plains Of The Shyok River, On Its Right Bank. A Very Beautiful Place To Be Visited.
